How to Print a Shipping Label Without a Printer at Home

If you have no printer, you still have options: use a print service, borrow one, or choose a paperless label code that a drop-off counter can scan from your phone. Which route works depends on what the carrier offers, so read its current instructions first.

Route One: Use Someone Else’s Printer

Save the label file to your phone or email it to yourself, then take it where printing is offered.

  • A print or copy shop, which can print from a memory stick or email.
  • A library or community centre with public printers.
  • A workplace or school, with permission from the owner.
  • A friend or neighbour who can print one page.

Ask for plain black and white at actual size, with no scaling. Tell them it holds a barcode and must not be resized.

Route Two: A Paperless Code

Some carriers let you show a code on your phone at a drop-off point, where staff scan it and print the label for you. Not every carrier or location offers this, and the steps vary.

  1. Create the shipment online and look for a paperless or code-based choice.
  2. Save the code or confirmation to your phone and also take a screenshot.
  3. Pack the parcel and take it to a location listed in the carrier’s current instructions.
  4. Show the code, and let staff attach the label.

Route Three: Handwritten Details

Some services allow you to write the address on the parcel, though a barcode-based label is normally what enables tracking. Do not assume this is accepted; ask the carrier or the counter. If it is allowed, use a thick permanent marker, block capitals and a clean flat surface.

Comparing the Routes

Route You need Main risk
Print shop File on a phone or drive Resized or low-quality output
Paperless code Phone with charge Location may not support it
Handwritten Marker and a clear surface May not be accepted

Before You Leave the House

  • Save the label file in two places, such as the phone and an email.
  • Note the tracking number on paper.
  • Pack and close the parcel so it is ready to hand over.
  • Check the opening hours of the location you plan to visit.
  • Bring tape and a marker in case staff ask you to add details.

FAQ

What if my phone battery dies?

Take a screenshot beforehand and carry a charging cable. A written copy of the tracking number also helps if staff need to find the shipment.

Can I tape a phone screen image to the parcel?

No. A screen is not a label. Only a printed label, or one applied by staff, belongs on the box.

The Short Version

Print elsewhere, use a paperless code if the carrier supports it, or ask what handwritten options exist. Keep the label file and tracking number saved so you can retry if something goes wrong.
